Review of IT

The terms of reference for the review are to consider:

(i) Opportunities for shared provision of services &/or utilising other providers, and the financial and operational consequences.

(ii) Utilise more effectively core skills and expertise of IT staff and if so whether our management structures are positioned to deliver this.

(iii) Where major changes in IT provision will occur over the next few years and how they will impact on the business  and its Strategy.

The overall aim of the Review is to enable the Needs Committee to have a full understanding of the scale of IT activities, including fixed assets, staff levels (from all funding sources), the state of the infrastructure, and capital requirements over the next 5 years.

The primary method of gathering information for the Review Group will be by one or more of a team of senior Computer Officers (Tim Dickens – Chemistry, Mike Rose – DAMTP, David Titterington – Physics) visiting Departments and interviewing selected members of staff, who are likely to include Computer Officers, academic staff and administrative staff. Please will you nominate two or three members of your staff in each category whom you think should be consulted, sending details to Peter Haynes Views from you as Head of Department will also be very welcome.

There will be no general advertisement of the Review and no general call for information or opinion. However details of the Review are given on web site and you should publicise the Review in your Department as you think fit.
